Armenian Canadian Medical Association of Ontario Gala

The Armenian Canadian Medical Association of Ontario (ACMAO) is having their 6th annual Gala this September 11th at the Liberty Grand. Their goal and mandate is clear: improve the health and well-being of the people of Ontario and Armenia through health education, humanitarian projects and academic endeavors.

Their most recent endeavor is buying and sending over a state of the art MRI machine to Armenia. Currently no such MRI machine exists in the country and those seeking testing often have to go to neighbouring countries to receive these life-saving tests.

Should you wish to attend this fabulous gala or simply support them by purchasing a ticket or an ad please ACMAO website at www.acmao.ca

Medical Conferences Coordination (Planning) Toronto

Type A Events is happy to be considered one of Toronto's best Medical Conference Coordinators. Having fallen into this field by chance, and stayed in this field by choice, and out of pleasure is a rare treat. Our work with MaRS Discovery Districts' recent Nitric Oxide Symposium, and our ongoing work with the Ontario Working Group on Early Psychosis Intervention AGM has been a rewarding and enriching experience.
We look forward to further work within the Medical community, working on conferences, meetings or AGMs.

Fall 2010: SPACE SPACE SPACE

Well once again Labour Day weekend is upon us. As children return to school; and adults return to workdays in long-sleeve shirts we event planners start to gear up for one of our busiest seasons: Fall.
Fall brings with it the return of corporate meetings and the start of holiday party planning.
As always I urge those of you who are in charge of putting together your company's next meeting or holiday party--BOOK EARLY!
Finding the right space at the right time is getting increasingly harder in Toronto as space is a minimum and demand is at a maximum.

A qualified event planner can help you find a variety of space options for your next event.

Harmonized Sales Tax (HST)

Just a quick note on the HST and how it affects Event Planners.
Event Coordinator that were PST exempt when consulting will now be charging the HST.
HST comes into effect on July 1st, 2010 and will be charged to all events taking place after this date.

Remember--you may have to pay a little more in taxes but the benefits of hiring an Event Planner far outweigh this small adjustment.
Event Coordinators can save you a lot of money through negotiation with vendors; through a larger portfolio of vendors; and through their experience with working within budgets. We are old pros at figuring out how to stretch your dollar!!
Look forward to helping you save in 2010!

Post-Event: MaRS Discovery District: Nitric Oxide Symposium

Thank you again to the wonderful folk at MaRS Discovery District and at NeurAxon for their fantastic work during the recent Nitric Oxide and other Gaseous Neurotransmitter (NOX) Symposium. The gathering of 20 of the leading minds in the field, including Noble Laureate Dr. Ferid Murad, was the first of it's kind in Toronto-are we next in line for the crown of Canada's premiere BioTech city? I hope so--if only to have more quality Symposiums such as NOX, and in order for there to be opportunity for me to work with this great collection of people again!

MaRS Discovery District: Nitric Oxide Symposium

Type A Events is proud to be part of the coordination team for the Nitric Oxide Symposium presented by MaRS Discovery District and NeurAxon taking place on May 27th and 28th, 2010.

Following the Nobel Prize awarded in 1998 for the discovery and function of Nitric Oxide (which up until then had been regarded as a noxious gas) an enormous amount of research has been undertaken to better understand the functions of this neurotransmitter in various physiological conditions as well as acute and chronic pathological conditions such as pain, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, stroke, inflammatory disease etc. Apart from Nitric Oxide, two other gaseous neurotransmitters, Hydrogen Sulfide and Carbon Monoxide, have become the focus of biologists and chemists alike to explore the significance of these neurotransmitters in inflammation and gastric mucosal protection.

The objective of this symposium is to increase awareness amongst the research community as to how basic science driven approaches can lead to the successful development of novel therapeutic agents.
The following aspects will be covered:
  • Biology: Discovery and function of gaseous neurotransmitters and mediators, including hydrogen sulfide and carbon monoxide
  • Pharmacology: Pain, inflammation, immunology, CNS, TBI
  • Structure: X-Ray structures on ligand bound enzymes
  • Chemistry: Donors and inhibitors - therapeutic implications
  • Clinical applications

Conference Planning: Ontario Working Group for Early Psychosis Intervention

Congratulations to the Ontario Working Group for Early Intervention in Psychosis (OWGEPI) for another successful Conference. The OWGEPI is an organization made up of employees that work for Early Psychosis Intervention programs across Ontario.
Type A Events was once again honoured to be coordinating this educational and fundamental Conference. The work the OWGEPI does at this Conference has practical applications to those within the Mental Health field--from clients, to family members, to doctors and case managers.
This year's theme of Social Inclusion brought Social Inclusion in Mental Health expert Dr. David Morris from England as our keynote speaker.
The workshops, keynote, and plenary session were filled with interesting debate and lively conversation. What a special group of dedicated people.

This was my 5th year organizing this Conference, and I hope for 5, 10, 15 years more!
Thank you to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for the funding of this Conference.

National Home Show Housewarming Party

Lena Arabian, Event Coordinator, Creative Director, Type A Events and Tracy Moore, Host CityLine

Type A Events was thrilled to have been invited back as event organizers of the fabulous National Home Show Opening Night Housewarming Party held this year on February 19th, 2010. Presented by CityLine and in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, this classic cocktail for a good cause brought us all a little warmth.

Hosted by CityLine's delightful Tracy Moore, with Special Guest Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's Ty Pennington, the event was filled with fun, fantastic tips and the occasional tipple. The talented and hilarious CityLine design team was also on hand, showing off their amazing Dream Home.

Taking place in the Home Show's beautifully designed Dream Gardens, a must see, our 450 attendants were treated to breathtaking landscape designs and architecture by candlelight. You could cozy up in a variety of features and nooks. Add on an amazing cake provided by Cakestars and a variety of delicate wines and hearty spirits provided by Toronto Wine and Spirits, and we were all in a bit of a dream. A nice place to be in dreary February.

Thanks to Denise, Shalini, Tina, Sarah and the entire National Home Show team for allowing Type A Events to be part of this special event.

Don't forget to visit the National Home Show, on until February 28th, 2010. Information can be found here.
